What could be better than a beautiful day spent in nature? If you’re in the mood for some fresh air and outdoor relaxation, cruise on over to our four favorite local Eveleth, MN parks.

1. Mesabi Trail

You can connect to this 150-mile paved Minnesota trail in Eveleth to explore the forests of the northeast part of the state. You’ll pass through 28 communities and experience historic sights like old iron ore mines. You’ll also be able to see local plants and wildlife as you hike, bike, or rollerblade along this multi-use route.

To get on the Mesabi Trail in Eveleth, use the Fayal Pond Access point. It’s located at 1502 Minnesota Route 37, where you’ll find a spur that connects with the main trail. A second parking lot exists at 111 Station 44 Rd.

2. Eveleth Veterans Park and Campground

Spend the day on Ely Lake at this local park or camp overnight for just $30. Eveleth Veterans Park has both tent sites and RV hookups. You can fish from the pier or take a boat out on the lake. The park has a swimming beach with a log roll and a floating dock. Other amenities include a soda machine, picnic tables, covered picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, fire pits, and barbecue grills.

The park is located at 4392 Millers Truck Rd. It’s open each year from May 1 through September 30.

3. Olcott Park

This park, best known for its 30-acre botanical garden and greenhouse, is designated as a National Historic Site. It’s the only tropical garden located north of the Twin Cities and it’s been open since the 1930s. Olcott Park also features a disc golf course and a historic fountain. Stop by the Virginia Area Historical Society building and pick up a brochure for the self-guided walking tour of the park’s historic sites, developed for its 100th anniversary.

Olcott Park is about 7 miles north of Eveleth in Virginia. It’s located at 711 9th Ave W and you can visit Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and other hours by appointment.

4. Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area

Located in the North Woods just 5 miles from Eveleth in Gilbert, Iron Range provides more than 1,200 acres of terrain to ride off-highway vehicles, including 36 miles of trails. Your off-highway vehicle must have the proper Minnesota registration to enter the park. It’s open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through September at 7196 Pettit Rd.
