2021 Ford Expedition

The Expedition lineup starts with the XL. It has 18-inch wheels, fog lights, running boards, and a roof rack. A bump up to the XLT, which is now the midlevel trim, adds interior upgrades to the XL. The XLT also offers an optional power liftgate and 20-inch wheels. The Limited is up next and comes standard with a hands-free power liftgate, power-retractable running boards, power-folding side exterior mirrors, and a self-dimming driver's side mirror. Step up again to the King Ranch for 22-inch wheels, King Ranch badging, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, and LED fog lights.

The top-level Platinum has satin aluminum exterior trim elements and roof rails with crossbars, and you can add the FX4 Off-Road Package for all-terrain tires, skid plates, an off-road suspension, and an upgraded radiator.

Every Expedition has the same powertrain under its hood. The 3.5-liter turbo V-6 gas engine makes 375 horsepower and generates 470 pound-feet of torque for all models except the Platinum, where it gets 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.

The strong engine easily powers the large Expedition down the highway and over back roads. The 10-speed automatic transmission shifts seamlessly through the gears providing passengers with a smooth and comfortable ride. When equipped with the optional tow package, it can pull up to 9,300 pounds.

There's room for five in the base Expedition and up to eight in the rest of the lineup. Every model has a premium feel in the cabin, and it comes with a long list of features. Cloth upholstery comes standard, and even the XL has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and tri-zone automatic climate control. Moving up through the lineup adds power-adjustable pedals, and you can also get leather-covered seats, heat for the second-row seats, and heated front seats. The King Ranch has upgraded leather upholstery, and the Platinum adds massaging and ventilated front seats.

Technology features in the Expedition start with an 8-inch touch screen, and a Wi-Fi hot spot comes standard. There's also a six-speaker stereo, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You'll get satellite radio in the XLT and a Bang & Olufsen stereo in the Limited.

Every 2021 Expedition comes standard with Co-Pilot360. This suite of advanced driver aids includes lane-keep assist, frontal collision warning with automatic braking, automatic high beam headlights, and a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. Ford adds rear parking sensors to the XLT and up, and Co-Pilot360 Assist to the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. This package adds full-speed adaptive cruise control to the list of driver aids. Step up to the top two trims, and a surround-view parking camera and parking assist will come standard.
