In an emergency situation on the road, every fraction of a second counts. If your visibility is reduced by dim or faulty headlights, your ability to detect and react quickly to collision threats is also hindered. With this in mind, always keep an eye on the condition of your headlights. If you notice the following signs of deterioration, head to your local Ford dealer for new headlights right away.

Your Headlights Partially Stop Working

The most obvious indication that you need new headlight bulbs is if they partially stop working. If a single bulb dies, you may need to replace both bulbs in the pair. This is because the second bulb isn’t likely to last much longer before it starts dimming and fails too.

If only your high beams or low beams stop shining, also have the issue fixed at once. It’s dangerous to drive without a complete set of working headlights as intended by the manufacturer.

Your Headlights Are Losing Brightness

The first sign of faltering headlights is often a gradual loss of brightness. If you notice you need to squint to see the road ahead, then at least one of your headlight bulbs is probably on its last legs.

It’s safest to have dimming bulbs replaced as soon as you notice the problem, rather than waiting for them to fail altogether. Any reduction in brightness puts you, your passengers, and other drivers at greater risk on the road.

Your Headlights Start Flickering

Flickering light may mean that a bulb filament is burnt out or broken. Flickering might also be caused by faulty wiring or another underlying issue with the electrical supply. Have a technician figure out and fix the problem before it worsens.

Your Fuse or One of Your Bulbs Keeps Failing

If any particular bulb fails repeatedly, no matter how many times you replace it, then the socket or wiring might have a fault. Likewise, a continually blowing fuse may point to an incorrectly installed bulb or a wiring issue. You’ll probably need a professional to diagnose the fault.

Your Ford Dealer Detects a Problem

Given their importance for road safety, headlights should be maintained with as much care as any other car part. During your periodical servicing visits at your local dealership, ask the technician to check that your headlights are in optimal working order. If they find a problem, the technician can repair it and save you from the risk of a suddenly failing bulb while out on the road.
