Your radiator has one of the most important jobs in your car, as it stops your engine from overheating. That’s why it’s vital to know when you need a radiator repair, as issues can crop up even in well-maintained vehicles. Head right to the Ford dealer if you see any of the signs we’re going to talk about below.

1. Constantly High Temperature Gauge

Even if your temperature gauge isn’t in the red zone, it could show you that your car is running hotter than normal. If the reading on the gauge has been higher than normal for the past few journeys, then you should head to the dealer ASAP. Your engine may not be cooling enough, and pretty soon, the issue could get so bad that the engine overheats.

2. Smoke Under the Hood

If your car is overheating, then your temperature gauge will move into the red zone. If you don’t notice that straight away, then you’ll definitely notice the smoke that can come from under the hood when the engine overheats.

If your engine is producing smoke, then you need to find a safe spot to pull over as quickly as possible. You shouldn’t attempt to drive again, as it can cause severe damage to major engine parts. You’ll need a tow truck to get you to the dealer.

3. Discolored Coolant

It’s a good idea to check the quality of the fluids in your vehicle every so often. Your coolant should be slightly translucent and have a bright color and sweet smell. If the coolant smells foul, is dark, or has a sludge-like consistency, then you’ll need to head to the dealer.

4. Coolant Puddle

Keep an eye out for pools of liquid on the ground around the car. If you spy a puddle of liquid that’s bright and smells sweet, then you may have a coolant leak. Make sure you clean up the leak ASAP, as it’s toxic to animals, and then check you have plenty of coolant left in your vehicle before you drive to the dealer for a repair.

5. Rapidly Dropping Coolant Level

Regularly check how much coolant you have in your vehicle, and take note of how quickly the level usually drops. If you notice the level is starting to drop faster than usual, then you might have a leak somewhere in the cooling system. Even if there are no other indicators of a leak, you should visit the dealer and have a professional take a look.
